An outdoor theater made from recycled containers will open to public on August 1 at Shanghai Culture Square.
Known as Music Box, the theater will open with “Memories of the Valley,” an original Chinese musical.
The main theater has capacity for 300 and there are also four smaller stages.
All the building materials have been recycled and can be used again.
Music Box designer Peter G.H. Fu said there would be no waste from construction and they any remaining materials would be used for sculptures or decorations.
Fu admitted the theater is not ideal in terms of acoustics since it is outdoors, adding that shows with a strong visual impact may be more suitable compared to concerts.
Fu also has a patent for his design.
